The Silver Wheel and the Lady In Red

The hexagon is called the mother of all rune shapes, which made no sense to me until I found out about the constellation of the Winter Hexagon, also known as the Hoop of Nations.

The six stars that mark the points of the Winter Hexagon are:

• Pollux in Gemini
• Procyon in Canis Minor
• Sirius in Canis Major
• Rigel in Orion
• Aldebaran (Germanic) or Pleiades (Lakota) in Taurus
• Capella in Auriga or the Charioteer

The central star is:

• Betelgeuse in Orion

When Betelgeuse is the Lady in Red and the Winter Hexagon is her Silver Wheel, tracking the pattens of movement of the Moon and planets through this constellation creates the shapes of the Runes.

The Maya  also see this area of the night sky as a source of creative energies. For them our constellation of Orion is the pit that holds the sacred fire.  Like the Lakota, their emphasis is on the cross centered in the hoops that is formed by:

• The ecliptic or horizontal plane of our solar system
• the Milky Way or the horizontal plane of our galaxy

There are three gates or doorways into the Silver Wheel:

• Where the ecliptic intersects the hoop at the summer solstice is the Silver Gate that allows souls to enter into their earthly incarnations. The Silver Gate is currently in the astrological sign of Cancer.
• Where the ecliptic intersects the hoop at the winter solstice is the Golden Gate that allows souls to depart their earthly incarnations. The Golden Gate is currently in the astrological sign of Capricorn.
• The third gate is Heaven’s Gate or the Great Summer Triangle of Sirius, Rigel and Betelgeuse  that allows the shaman passage to the heavenly realms.

There are the steps of the women’s journey of initiation laid out in the heavens. Now, like Parzival’s journey, all that is left is the innumerable hours required to work out the pesky details!
