The most powerful and respected voices in any healthy community are the sacred clowns that make everyone laugh when they recognize those truths, most especially in themselves. America has a long history of insightful comedians ranging from Mark Twain to Will Rogers to Arsenio Hall. When we can laugh at our differences, we find our deepest similarities and our most profound sense of belonging.
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have not displayed much of their sense of humor, but they have at least been willing to let others laugh.
I am voting for freedom of speech. And here is a humorous reminder that none of the issues facing us now are new:
